Creating Healthy Lunches

As a mother of a school-aged child, I have concerns about the foods my daughter is eating at school. Even though the school is supposed to provide a lunch that meets 30% of the recommended daily allowances, I don't know if she is chosing to eat the foods provided by the school. If I was a betting mom, I would bet she eats the fruit (she loves fruit) and the dessert. On the days she takes her lunch to school, she usually brings home her leftovers so I know exactly what she ate that day. The website, http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/showarticle/330, provides ideas on how to assist your child eat a healthy lunch. It has ideas for foods to send with your child in a lunch box for school. I liked this site because it mentions various ideas of lunch items so that you are not sending the same foods everyday. (Peanut butter every day for 9 months of school will get boring for most!) If you have school-aged kids, check out the site.

These are good ideas. My boys took their lunches to school several times a week and got tired of sandwiches. I wish I had thought of some of these.
