Two postings I found to be significant to this experience and to this topic were those which introduced me to the Alliance for A Healthier Generation and the School Nutrition Alliance. The first is an organization with participation from the American Heart Association, the Clinton Foundation (founded by former president Bill Clinton) and Rachael Ray's Yum-O organization. I feel that these well-known faces and associations will help to get the message out about healthy eating and lifestyles, in a time where I keep hearing predictions that due to the increased obesity rate, today's children could actually have a shorter lifespan than their parents (scary!).
The School Nutrition Alliance's website is really informative; it gives parents and teachers information about many aspects of the USDA's school nutrition program, including addressing myths about the nutrition and origins of the commodities used by schools. I was also really impressed that the site offers information about recalls that have occured around the country; I thought it was a responsible action to put a link to such information on the site's homepage so that concerned parents, teachers, and school nutrition workers could easily find it.
